'Short & Social' - monthly pub & tea shop walks
The first Thursday walk of the month is always a short, leisurely morning or afternoon walk of 5 miles or under ending with an informal get together at a local pub, cafe or tea shop. Non walkers are welcome to attend just for the social if they wish. Members are welcome to bring along family or friends as guests for the walk, the pub/cafe social or both.
This is a great way to get to know fellow members, make new friends and have a good gossip over a meal, a snack, a pint or a coffee and a cake (or two). It is also a chance to chat about local paths, walks and anything else that interests you, exchange useful information and share photos.
These well attended events are very popular with members and over the last year we have visited pubs that brew their own beer or cider and lovely family run tea shops, all serving delicious home made food and gorgeous cakes. Many places chosen by our walk leaders for the social are in picturesque riverside settings, others have gardens to enjoy the summer sun or real open fires to recover from winter chills.
We try to go at a leisurely pace so we can walk and talk at the same time and avoid stiles if possible. These walks are a great introduction to walking in the countryside if you haven't tried it before or want to improve your fitness before takling a longer walk.
See our walks programme for the details of our next 'short & social'.
Xmas Lunch Rambles
On Thursday 6 December and Sunday 13 th December there will be a special Xmas Lunch walk starting and ending at a local pub. These are always popular walks and enjoyable social occasions. It is essential that you book your place with the leader in advance to avoid disappointment as we will need to let the pubs know how many people to expect. Family and friends are welcome to come along too, even if you don't want to walk and just join us for lunch. Do let the leader know if there are any special dietary requirements. There are full details of the walks, the venues and how to contact the leader on our walks programme page
