Help us keep our local paths open
Telford & East Shropshire Ramblers works closely with officers from Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire Councils to remove path obstructions, restore signage and maintain our local rights of way network. Without footpaths no one can go walking.
On Shropshire Council's website is a 'definitive map' showing every path in the County and whether it a right of way. If you find an unusable right of way, don't just grumble, report it online via a Countryside feedback form. The Council, aided by Ramblers and Parish Path Partnerships volunteers, will then try to resolve the problem. Please take photos, make a note of the grid reference, the type and number of the path. Use the zoom and click on the path on the interactive map to find full details of each path.
In Telford & Wrekin report blocked and obstructed paths and missing signposts on the Council webiste using 'report a rights of way' problem. You can also report footpath problems as you walk around with photos on a mobile phone by downloading The Everyday Telford App.
If you report a blocked path, let our Footpaths Officer know.
Most paths are blocked by accident or neglect but sometimes landowners close access or don't restore paths after ploughing, cropping or building work. If you see problem paths please send us an email via the contacts tab. The path shown right was blocked by barbed wire over the stile and a barbed wire fence the other side. A dog walker told our Footpaths Officer. She visited the path and informed Telford & Wrekin Council's Rights Of Way Officer who reminded the landowner of their obligations. When she went back to the path she found no change. The landowner was then asked to remove the barriers. After this happened a few more times our Footpaths Officer contacted the responsible Council Member and the landowner was told they would be taken to Court if they continued to deliberately close the path. There is now a ladder stile here.
