About our walking programme
Details of upcoming walks are posted in advance on our home page, the Ramblers website, and on our Facebook page.
Booking with the leader is essential as places may be limited. The maximum number of walkers for each walk offered by the Group is determined by the walk leader following a risk assessment and will take into account suitable car parking as well as what number matches health and safety guidelines.
See the latest Ramblers update for the current government guidance for walkers in England, Wales and Scotland.
When do we walk?
We offer a programme of led walks all year round. Our walking days are usually Thursdays and Sundays and we sometimes walk on Saturdays and other days as well.
Where do we go?
Walks are very varied, something for everyone. We walk in our local area, all over Shropshire and beyond. It's a great way to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and changing seasons. We take you to a variety of places and landscapes; towns, villages, rivers, canals, waterfalls, meres, coasts, woods, moorlands and hills, country parks, nature reserves and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
You can find full details of every walk including length, a brief route description, how hard or easy it is, meeting places and times, car parking, and the walk leader's contact details on the Walks Programme section of this website. There is more information under FAQs in About Us.
Occasionally we offer a themed walk. Wildflower walks are popular; bluebells, snowdrops, wild orchid woods, hay meadows. Industrial and social history walks in the Ironbridge Gorge are another favourite. We even walked Birmingham's canals and hidden routeways under Spaghetti Junction! They're good walks in special and interesting places, but rest assured they are not guided lecture tours.
We sometimes offer a choice of walks, possibly a shorter local walk of 4 to 5 miles and a longer walk of around 8 miles which may visit other places in Shropshire.
All members get a fully detailed printed walks programme booklet by email or post twice a year if requested. See the latest newsletter for our current walks programme.
